Leading the Way Out of Global Poverty

When we are asked by a prospective member, “What is Rotary all about?” - it is a good time to refer to the Object of Rotary.

OBJECT OF ROTARY.

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

FIRST: The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;

SECOND: High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;

THIRD: The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life;

FOURTH: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

Have you seen the Object of Rotary in action? Let us show you an example:

FIRST: The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;

A recent article on the front page of the Rotary eClub One website, being read by member Bob Miller, was about the talent of one of our members, Caii-Michelle.

If you did not see that article, Caii-Michelle is a New Zealander by birth, and an international performing artist with an ability to sing in many languages. Caii-Michelle has won the ‘Entertainer of the Year’ award for the Latin American community and three Gold Medals and three Best Performance Trophies in Los Angeles at a World Championship of Performing Arts. In Australia, Caii-Michelle was the only female vocalist to perform at the 30 year celebration of the relationship between China and Australia, performing a duet in Mandarin with a Chinese opera star. Learn more about Caii-Michelle – The Voice of Aoteroa on her website.

SECOND: High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;

Member Bob Miller read in that article where Caii-Michelle was quoted, “I feel so excited, but very emotional at the same time! I have worked over 20 years now towards a mission, goal and dream to launch my independent career to enable me to continue to do what I choose to do and that is utilize my talents and music industry to help causes all around the world. I have turned down three major recording contracts because of believing in my mission and my purpose with my talent.

Bob Miller is the executive director of the USA nonprofit Our Family Orphan Communities, Inc.(O.F.O.C.), the founder of the Sustainable Family Communities (SFC) initiative and author of the book, Poverty as my Teacher – Creating Sustainable Family Communities. This initiative helps those who are living in the extreme poverty of urban slums to have an opportunity for a path to a decent quality-of-life for themselves and their families. O.F.O.C’s nonprofit in Mexico, Nuestra Familia Comunidades de Huérfanos, A.C., is currently working with its 12 person advisory board in Mexico City to determine the location of the first SFC community in Mexico.

THIRD: The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life;

When Caii-Michelle and Bob spoke to each other, they didn’t let distance affect their joining forces to provide service to our world. This demonstrates the international synergy that the Rotary eClub One offers with its members from many countries around our world.

Caii-Michelle and Bob quite naturally have formed an international team that will be serving the impoverished around the world. The theme of their work is Leading the way out of global Poverty™ and they will accomplish that by implementing the O.F.O.C. design for Sustainable Family Communities™.

FOURTH: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

Caii-Michelle has formally accepted the role of International Celebrity Ambassador of Our Family Orphan Communities and the Sustainable Family Communities (SFC) initiative. She will be representing them around the world as together they are Leading the way out of global poverty.

This initiative is not just for Caii-Michelle and Bob, but is also an opportunity for other Rotarians and Clubs that want to assist in the elimination of extreme poverty “one community at a time”.

The SFC initiative guides locals in the building of commercial-sized, food-producing companies that create jobs. These are jobs with decent wages, bonuses and ownership in the companies. They then use ALL of the profits from these businesses to assist in building the infrastructure, facilities, homes and providing the services that any new small community needs. All this with NO charity and NO government subsidies.

These new communities are designed to last for generations. They each have a sustainable economy, environment, food supply and society. You, and your club, can learn more about the job-creating, poverty-eliminating SFC initiative at the Sustainable Family Communities website.

As a first step in their working together, Caii-Michelle and Bob can use your help to obtain new video footage that will be used to represent the theme, Leading the way out of global poverty, in a new version of her music video, "HELP". You may be able to help if you have video footage that you think would help us get this message across. Please let us know if you have something you believe may work.

This current music video below is a great showcase of what our Rotary eClub Member can do. With her own original theme song HELP, which will be tailored to this new initiative, we will be promoting the SFCs internationally. We are waiting with baited breath for the launch of this new theme song.

Watch the video below to hear the beautiful voice of Caii-Michelle singing the cover song HELP from her newest album.
