Young RYLA

For many years, Rotary has taught leadership to young people all around the world through the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) leadership development program. Districts 5440 and 5450 co-host a RYLA summer camp each year, and in addition, we host a program for eighth grade students know as Young RYLA. In the summer of 2014, Rotary eClub One sponsored two students to attend the Young RYLA camp in Colorado.

Young RYLA is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for young leaders throughout the two districts, and it promotes, encourages and rewards these outstanding young leaders. Young RYLA is a five-day summer camp that brings together students selected and sponsored by Rotary clubs to share their ideas about becoming better leaders. The program builds confident and leadership skills and consistently received outstanding feedback from campers and parents.

Ling Myo Mang came to the United States from Burma six years ago. In addition to be a stellar student, she helps take care of her younger siblings each day after school and prepares meals for her family. She learned most of her English after she arrived in the United States, and she was excited to attend Young RYLA to continue to meet new people and come out of her shell.

Josh Bullock is an accomplished percussionist, including playing as the youngest member of several statewide honor bands. He also speaks Chinese, acts and is a member of the Boy Scouts.
