VOCATONAL
SERVICE
Les Falk -
canada
Director
Vocational Service
One of the pillars
of the four Avenues of Service, Vocational Service
fosters and supports the application of the Ideal of
Service in pursuit of all vocations. Inherent in the
Vocational Service Ideal are :
1. Adherence to, and promotion of, the highest ethical
standards in all occupations, including loyalty to
employers, employees, and associates, and fair treatment
of those with whom one has business or professional
relations;
2. The recognition of the worthiness to society of all
useful occupations; and
3. The contribution of one's vocational talents to the
problems and needs of society.
Vocational Service is the responsibility of both a
Rotary club and its members. The role of the club is to
develop projects that help members contribute their
vocational talents. The role of members is to conduct
their professional lives in accordance with Rotary
principles and to share in projects which the club has
developed.
Vocational Service evolved from the classifications
principle - a feature originally unique to Rotary that
limits active membership to one representative from each
business or profession. In fact at that first meeting of
Rotary initiated by Paul Harris in Chicago, there was a
conscious recognition shared amongst these original
'Adam and Eve' Rotarians that they were meeting as
representatives of their vocations. And this recognition
has been 'institutionalized' down the years from the
abovementioned classification principle which in effect
works to encourage every Rotarian to be a living
exemplar of his/her vocation in the local community, and
Rotary has traditionally stated that others will
understand the vocation by the professional conduct of
the Rotarian who holds that vocational classification.
Vocational programs are varied and are described in the
Rotary Vocational Service Handbook
During 2007/2008, Rotary eClub One will be developing a
number of Vocational Service activities which include

Rotary Feasibility Study
into the
development of a leadership program in improving access to ICT for people with disabilities
A
feasibility study, jointly funded by Rotary
eClub One and the Rotary Club of Canberra East
(District 9710,
Australia)
will investigate the most appropriate
alternatives for the development of a leadership
program for people with disabilities. This
leadership program will train people with
disabilities as representatives of their
organizations to achieve improved access to
information and communication technologies (ICTs)
for their constituents. The results of the study
will be outlined in a concise and focused report
that will be used as the basis for funding
approaches to relevant Government agencies and
to Rotary. For further information, please
