On April 13, 2016 at 10:30AM the Council of Legislation adopted a resolution to abolish the distinction for e-clubs:
Recognizing that clubs already meet in a variety of ways, the council just
voted to
Remove the distinction between traditional and e-clubs.
There are currently 275 clubs labeled e-clubs, with 5,900 members. Now, all clubs are clubs, who can sometimes meet online, sometimes in person, depending on their needs.
This doesn't change in any way your ability to do a makeup on our site and make a generous donation for us to continue our actions and services.
Here is a letter from our Charter President:
Dear President Emmanuel,
The Rotary International Council on Legislation has made a momentous decision to remove any difference between the way traditional clubs and e-clubs meet and operate.
From July we will be part of a Rotary world in which any Rotary club can meet as it chooses ... face-to-face, purely online, or a mixture of both. When District 5450 formed the original design committee for Rotary eClub One in March 2001, we assembled a wonderful group of talented visionary Rotarians.
My role as the District Governor's Special Representative was made easier due to the skills and innovations contributed by these outstanding individuals. Sadly, Gary Fletcher and Ted Manning are no longer with us. Had they been alive today they would join me in marveling that our efforts in 2001 would lead eventually to something available to every Rotary club in the world.??
In my opinion, the positive benchmark set by Rotary eClub One, year after year, led by PP Chris Joscelyne and all the past presidents, has ensured that online clubs would be accepted and embraced. It is this acceptance that enabled the decision of voting delegates at the 2016 Council on Legislation to allow every Rotary club in the world to adopt all or part of our Rotary eClub One ways of doing service above self.??
I want to congratulate Rotary eClub One and its members on what has been achieved since we received our Rotary charter on January 4, 2002. The consistent excellence of Rotary eClub One has set a benchmark that built enormous respect and confidence throughout the Rotary community, and in particular, with the Rotary decision makers in Evanston.??
Well done Rotary eClub One! Awesome!
Yours sincerely,?
John Minter?Charter President, Rotary eClub One
