As is tradition, members of Rotary eClub One enjoyed an evening of fellowship at the Chelsea Hotel in Toronto during the International Convention.
Each year members of the club take time from their busy Convention schedules to meet face-to-face, talk about the activities of the club, and make new Rotary friends.
At this year’s dinner, Rotary eClub One President ‘Buchi Akpeh welcomed members and guests.
Incoming President Eyo Effiong presented a slide show introducing many projects funded by the club and carried out by club members under both International Service and Community Service.
Sandy Mortensen, incoming District Governor of District 5450, the home district of Rotary eClub One, gave a short history of our district’s involvement in starting the very first Rotary EClub, and she spoke about the Colorado district’s goals and accomplishments.
Professional Excellence Award
Each year at our Annual Dinner, our club gives a Professional Excellence Award to “a founder, CEO, or senior executive of a not-for-profit enterprise who is making a significant and effective contribution to the well-being of those served by the enterprise.”
This year’s recipient was Bob Butterill, a Rotarian and Past President of Toronto Sunrise. Butterill is active with the Fort York Food Bank. This organization delivers integrated services to its community, focusing on nutritional needs of families and individuals as well as helping people reconnect with the community through counseling, training and advocacy. The organization helps people find jobs and safe housing.
During the club’s recognition of the 2017-2018 club officers, both Janet Newberg, Treasurer, and Carol Steen, Past President, received Paul Harris Fellowship Awards.
New Rotary eClub One President Eyo was installed and now-Past President ‘Buchi gave closing remarks.
Following the dinner, members of Rotary eClub One posed for one last picture.
